VRLA batteries include gel (Gelled Electrolyte) and absorbed glass mat (AGM). VRLA batteries can be substituted in virtually any flooded lead acid battery application (with well regulated charging), as well as applications where traditional batteries cannot be used. 

 

A Gel battery is sealed using special pressure valves and should never be opened. They are therefore maintenance free. It is non-spillable and able to be operated in any position. However Upside-down is not recommended. A Gel Battery is most suited to a deep cycle application such as :-

 

 

An AGM or AAGM battery is also sealed using special pressure valves and should never be opened, and maintenance free. The electrolyte is absorbed in the separators consisting of a sponge-like mass of glass fibres. It is non-spillable and able to be used in any position, however upside-down is not recommended. These batteries are most suited to a light cycle or float charge applications
